This year’s impressive lineup includes:

Kathryn Hallberg B.M. ’16 is a folk/rock singer-songwriter from Houston, Texas. Based in Nashville, she plans to release her third EP, Some Dreams, this fall. This new project is a departure from her previous work, blending her love of 1970s folk/rock and alternative sweethearts such as Ryan Adams and Pete Yorn.

Singer-songwriter and guitarist Courtney Hartman B.M. ’12 began playing guitar when she was 8. After the release of her solo EP Nothing We Say, she was nominated instrumentalist of the year in 2017 by the Americana Music Association. Her songs are flush with intimate ruminations on her life as a traveling musician and a deep curiosity about the world. Acoustic Guitar lauds Hartman as a “distinctive guitar stylist ... and a songwriter that delights and disturbs.” Together with Robert Ellis, she recently released Dear John, a tribute to the songs of John Hartford. Rolling Stone called the collection “a convincing contemporary case for Hartford’s enduring legacy in modern roots music.”

Nashville singer-songwriter Nina Ricci B.M. ’14 creates music relevant to current times while keeping her footing in folk revival music on her debut album, Designs on Me. She declares, “I’m a storyteller—each song on this album tells its own story.” The seven selections reflect poetic elements of her imagination. Noting that the album is a mixture of many colors and emotions, Ricci says, “there was a peace all along that it was going to come out as it should be. There’s nothing like getting an education and then implementing what you’ve learned in living color.” With this album, and with all the colors it contains, she embarks on a musical journey to share her voice with others.
